Coming Out with Epilepsy

https://youtu.be/tXtjbPLmbkk

I never thought this video would see the light of day. In fact, I didn’t believe in myself to speak out about my diagnosis but now I have, I feel much better.

When I received my diagnosis seven months ago, I was just in my early stages of adulthood. College had finished for the Summer, I was on top of the world with my YouTube channel and I had a lot of plans for the future ahead. When I got the news, my life stopped. It was like whirling down a plug hole and I was the water. I could have done things but that put a spanner in the works. ūüėí

I didn’t know what to do or what to expect. ūüėě However, life seems to have taken me into a 50/50 turn. Sure, I have to have limits for the rest of my life but there are other ways to. After uploading my Story Time video, I began to see a positive side of things. This included:

  • Getting my life back on track
  • Finding alternatives to my health, academic and social lives
  • Raising awareness about Epilepsy
  • Finding new dreams

I really want to raise awareness and share my opinion on the matter. And now with help and support from my wonderful friends, I feel that I’m stronger than I was before. ūüėä

I don’t where the road lies ahead now but I feel like I’m on top of the world once again.

Lastly, I want to say thank you to everyone who for your support and encouragement at this time. I’m so lucky to have amazing friends in my life and I really couldn’t have done it without you. ūüėä ‚ú® ūüĆü

Life’s a journey but we’ll get there. Just believe and soon we’ll be there. ‚̧

New Term, New Me

This week has been really busy. After returning to school with a first week of rehearsals, I’m now back rehearsing and studying. Honestly, I don’t know how I can keep up with myself. It can be hard when you are a student, a YouTuber and Blogger under one belt but once you get used to it, it’ll all be fine.

Since I have started again for the Spring term, I have decided to renew myself by scheduling a life plan. It was recommended to me by my Support Worker, after we discussed what targets I would like to achieve within the Next Year. Sounds like a good idea, but it’s not as easy as you think it might be. All it takes (normally) is courage and inspiration. To do that, all you have to do is open your inner self.

Life isn’t easy, nor is a personality change. And is taking the easy road the only option in everyone’s lifetime? In reality, it’s not because when you think about it, changing yourself can be a new self discovery. The world has available choices for us; to decide who we want to be and what we want during our lifetime. And they don’t call it a challenge for nothing. Most famous people we know had to face many challenges to get where they are today. So, why should we let our same, old selves get in the way of our dreams?

Although I am in the middle stage, I feel that I want to carry on and explore myself a bit more. Studying, fashion; you name it. And I want to share this journey with you.

So, here are my top new changes I want to do this year.

Read a Good, Commutative Self-Help Book

Already got it in the bag. ūüėČ At the moment, I’m reading Be Your Own Fairytale by Alison Davies, who helps readers gain their confidence, through fairytales. Very good, and highly recommend it especially if you are into fairytales.

Keep a Journal

Again, got it in the bag. I always keep a few journals, plus my blog.

Try to Reach Out of Your Comfort Zone

Going through this process, at the moment. But mostly in Drama school. I want to try and be the best I can be, by going out of my comfort zone.

Be Inspired

This aim is a tricky one. However, I’m trying to be inspired by reading. I’m keen to study characters who have silmar lives to me like Harriet from the Geek Girl Series and Penny from the Girl Online Series. Then with the situations they go through and how they deal with them, I can reflect mine and see how I can resolve them as well.

Write a Life Plan

Nearly finished on this one. Before I started, I found a very useful How To page by wikihow that gave advice on how to draw one up:

And I’ve never looked back.

Try to Be Honest About Myself

A work in progress.

A new me and a new start. An excellent progress if I do say so myself.

Now, it’s over to you. Are you looking to start any new targets? If so, what would you like to achieve and why? I would love to hear your aims for this year.

That’s all for now and don’t forget to look out for my YouTube channel and blog this February for new posts. ūüėÉ

Please Accept Me For Who I Am: How Should You Tell Your Blind Date/s That You Have Autism

“You’ve said on your profile that you’re autistic?” That’s one question one I got asked when I started online dating. And before you ask; yes, I did write on my profile that I have Autism – and I don’t¬†regret¬†it.

When I started online dating, I decided to be open and honest about myself because I wanted to make new friends, as well as finding a possible future lover.

According to Dating Sites Reviews. com, 91 million people worldwide use dating apps and 7 in 10 of these users are between 16 and 34 years old. So when you think of how many users go online, how many of them tell the truth? You don’t know. However, you’ll know if they’re interested in you and message you privately.¬†That’s what happened with me,¬†involving¬†a couple of users¬†– half of them stopped contacting, weeks after we exchanged; the rest are still in conversation with me.

And, I don’t feel bad about myself because there’ll be¬†plenty¬†fish in the sea. When I got in and lost contact with my first guy, I did feel disappointed and confused. In time, I began to realise that not contacting me back is their loss; they never confessed that they didn’t want to contact me anyone, but I guess that’s boy talk for, “I’m done with you”. However, they may contact again, but I cannot guarantee that it’ll happen.

Before that stage happened, everything was building up; we got to know each other like what we study, work and lives. Most of their lives were¬†extremely interesting; each person reminded me of an interesting character in a William Shakespeare play, a Jane Austin novel or one of Sir Arthur¬†Conan Doyle’s Sherlock series. I couldn’t believe that there were so many fascinating lives in the world.¬†And this, the concept of online dating, has taught me something – it’s fun (in the words of my closet friends,”it’s like exploring a sweet shop”) and educational. There, you can learn, through others, about different cultures that are happening all over the world and what happens in their lives, like the subjects they study at University for example.

But when it came to the¬†Autistic part, I knew I had to speak the truth. I had many questions from them – “what’s it’s like being Autistic” and “how does it affect you?” When I was younger, I felt uncomfortable talking about it but since I became one of the 91 million online dating users, my confidence grew and grew. And what I replied to them was the truth. Not the truth that I just gabble on and on, without stopping to look. But the truth that I take to write and re-write, taken straight from my heart. And with that, I leave them to judge their opinion. So far, I’ve had positive, confused and some, out of tone responses. None of them have been negative (thank goodness). However, I don’t know what I’m going to¬†receive¬†next time. It may be good; it may not. As long as I’m comfortable speaking about Autism, that’s all it matters to me.

Can online dating improve your life? Possibly. Can it teach you something?¬†Absolutely! That’s why I highly recommend it. Time maybe changing, but in a way that you may not expect it to be.

If you are considering online dating, then don’t be afraid to start today; it could change your life. Whither you are¬†Autistic¬†or not, it could be an excellent way to start new turns in your relationships and friendships. It certainly did for me. However, it may take a while before you might find the right people – possibly years (which is¬†similar to finding love, off the screen). But don’t lose hope; love can happen to everyone – we all¬†deserve¬†it. But¬†remember¬†when you sign up and thinking of what information to write on your profile – Just be Yourself! Don’t get carried away or lie your way around situations; that’s not the answer to make new friends or a future¬†love.

Also, don’t be afraid to share your hobbies and your daily life. You may meet¬†fantastic¬†people, who may share the same¬†activities¬†as you! You could be very lucky this way, as sharing them can make a relationship and/or friendships stronger.

As for me, I’ll continue to seek new friendships and possible lovers, until I reach success – it may take a while, but I’m not giving up that easily. ūüėČ
